Terracotta jewellery, meaning “baked earth,” traces its origins to ancient civilizations like the Indus Valley, Mesopotamia, and Egypt, where clay was first fired for both utility and adornment.

In India, this eco-friendly craft remains vibrant, especially in regions like West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, where rural artisans and contemporary designers alike shape and fire natural clay to create intricate, earthy accessories. Crafted by hand or with molds, each piece undergoes careful drying, kiln firing (600–1000°C), and often hand-painting with acrylics, featuring motifs inspired by nature, mythology, and folk art.

Lightweight yet bold, terracotta jewellery includes necklaces, earrings, and bangles adorned with vibrant paints, beads, tassels, and metallic accents—celebrated today for its sustainable charm, cultural heritage, and artisanal craftsmanship
