Mosaic art is an ancient and globally celebrated form of visual expression, dating back to Mesopotamia in the 3rd millennium BCE, and later refined by Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic cultures.

Known for its intricate beauty and durability, mosaic art involves assembling small pieces of materials like stone, glass, ceramic, or shell—called tesserae—into elaborate designs on surfaces such as walls, floors, and objects.

Traditionally used in religious, public, and decorative architecture, mosaics have conveyed stories, spiritual symbolism, and cultural identity for centuries.

The creation process includes designing, cutting tesserae, adhering them to a substrate, grouting, and sometimes sealing. Materials range from smalti glass and marble to recycled objects, and modern artists continue to evolve the form with contemporary motifs and techniques.

Mosaic art remains a vital, tactile medium celebrated for its texture, luminosity, and timeless appeal.
